“The Nymph” now available!

He leaped over a gap in the jag and turned back to reach his hand out for her to follow. A boulder smashed down where she was, causing him to jolt, but she emerged from the shards standing there as she always did, unharmed. “Because I’m not really here, after all,” she said and then disappeared. The jag path he had been following had become a lone platform now, leaving him alone and isolated as the world’s light flickered and died out. “I know that. It’s why I have nothing…nothing left in my dreams. Ever. Not anymore.”

Two years after the events of The Elf, Evan is still searching for Cifi, and the meanings to the dreams they shared. His quest will take him across the country in a last attempt to choose the life that he wants and follow his heart.

Paperback $14.99 plus s&h

e-book $4.99

Kickstarter for Nymph!

Posted in kickstarter,Nymph, writing by jamesdanielfluker on May 18, 2012

Editing is at 90% and should be done by this coming week!

I have started the Kickstarter to raise funds for The Nymph in order to showcase it at an Arts Fair in my area.

Please consider supporting this, and you even get cool stuff like the novel if you do so!

It runs for 30 days and the goal is $300. I will update here and on the twitter as I see fit 😉

Thank you for your support.

The Nymph Update 5/17: Finishline!

Posted in kickstarter,Nymph, writing by jamesdanielfluker on May 17, 2012

Apologies for the wait on a formal blog update.

I took  about a month off before I started editing, but we are now in the homestretch.

The Nymph is over 80% edited. Right now, I’m most concerned with a few small things in Act 5.

Two things still need to be completed before Nymph is ready to go out though, which may delay it out of May.

The first being the cover design (how humorous, considering the same happened with Elf.) I’m hoping to download a Photoshop trial and work on it in the next week.

The second being a Kickstarter project I am doing for Nymph and my other work. It has been submitted for evaluation, but I don’t know how long this takes.

So right now I’m tentatively okay with saying Nymph will be available at the end of the month or sometime in June.

I promise to keep you updated on this, and my next project, which I’ll start talking about more next month as well.

The Nymph Update 2/28

If you’ve been following my Twitter, then you know I’ve been getting back to work on The Nymph, and will soon be releasing it to Beta readers.
Currently, it’s about 90% written and 75% edited (first draft.) Once both those number hit 100, then I will be sending it off to those select few.

Due to their preferences, The Nymph will also be on here for a limited time, on the same conditions as The Elf currently. I plan to put up two parts a week, Thurs/Mon until the whole thing is posted. (One part=an act.)

The plan is to have Beta reading and the next edit done by the end of March, and ultimately have Nymph done by the end of April or early May at the latest.

After this one is completed, I will be (for the most part) taking a break until November. While I have a project already in mind for then, I will be doing only light work for it, as I need a break from writing novels. I am currently looking at writing some short stories or short plays/screenplays in between though. Stay tuned here for details! Thanks for reading.

Nanowrimo 2011 Over-Final Results

As promised,  updated about once a week in November with how progression on The Nymph (2012) is going.

The goal was 50,000 words by the end of the month, which means about 1667 words a day. Let’s see how it finished.

We ended the third week at 30,000 words (with a target of 35,000.) This homestretch proved to be too much for me. Or rather, the other projects and responsibilities as a college student took up the bulk of my time, as well wanting a respite from writing in my meager free time. So Days 22 and 27 I wrote 1k each, and got a decent day out of Day 28 with 2,500, adding only 4,500 to my total to 34,500 words. That puts me at 69% or 2/3 to my goal. Not great but not horrible either. (Last year I only got about 18 or 19k.) Read on past the days for what’s next.

Day 22: +1,000 words (31,000) Target was 36,666.

Days 23-26: NO CHANGE

Day 27: +1,000 words (32,000) Target was 45,000.

Day 28: +2,500 words (34,500) Target was 46,666.)

Days 29 and 30: NO CHANGE

UP NEXT: I will continue working on the first draft of The Nymph, hoping to finish it by year’s end. (Actually, before Christmas, due to being out of town after that.) I plan on taking my time with the editing process, to hopefully release it in the Spring. More updates here, of course, as we go along. Thanks for reading!

Nanowrimo Progress Week 3

As promised, we’ll be updating once a week in November with how progression on The Nymph (2012) is going.

The goal is 50,000 words by the end of the month, which means about 1667 words a day. Let’s see how its going.

We ended the second week at 19,300 words (with a target of 23,333.) Day 15 was a large amount of progress (which didn’t record properly on Nanowrimo at first) about 4,000 words added to the week before. After a day off, I wrote only 500 words, then had two days of progress. Sorry, it’s been a hell of a week what with wrapping a lot of assignments and responsibilities up before Thanksgiving break. By the end of day 19, I was nearly 9,000 words behind (more than 5 days) and I felt the pressure. However, I rose to the challenge and had my best day at the end, with 1,500 on Day 20 (almost quota) and a whopping 5,000!!! on day 21, finishing the week only 5,000 words behind at 30k.

Better still, I’m almost done with Act 3, which has proven to be a very difficult portion of The Nymph to write. Just one more day’s worth and I should be into Act 4, which starts the action that leads to the finale. Once again, thanks for following; we’ll see you at next week’s update!

Day 15- 23,000 words (target: 25,000)

Day 17- 23,500 words (target: 28,333)

Day 20- 25,000 (target: 33,333)

Day 21: 30,000 words (target: 35,000)

As promised, we’ll be updating once a week in November with how progression on The Nymph (2012) is going.

The goal is 50,000 words by the end of the month, which means about 1667 words a day. Let’s see how its going.

We ended the first week at 10,900 words (with a target of 11,666.) Days 8 and 9 met with small progress, a little under what was needed for each day, and Day 10 was a day off. Day 11 had 2,500 words to help catch-up a little, and Day 12 was the biggest day of the week, with nearly 2 days worth of writing done. Days 13 and 14 had very little progress and meant the loss of another day’s progress.

Day 8- 11,111 words (target: 13,333)

Day 9- 12,500 words (target: 15,000)

Day 10- NO CHANGE (target: 16,666)

Day 11- 15,000 words (target: 18,333)

Day 12- 18,250 words (target: 20,000)

Day 13-19,100 words (target: 21,666)

Day 14- 19,300 words (target: 23,333)

As promised, we’ll be updating once a week in November with how progression on The Nymph (2012) is going.

The goal is 50,000 words by the end of the month, which means about 1667 words a day. Let’s see how its going.

The first two days I managed to stay a little bit ahead, then was unable to write for days 3 and 4. Day 5 I started the attack, writing nearly 2 days worth, and by Day 6 I had nearly caught up. As of yesterday, day 7 I’m over 10k and less than a thousand words behind, pretty impressive since I had to write a 2k word paper that day.

Day 1: 1800 words (target: 1667)

Day 2: 3625 words (target 3333)

Day 3: 3625 words (target 5,000)

Day 4: 3625 words (target 6666)

Day 5: 7200 words (target 8333)

Day 6: 9100 words (target 10,000)

Day 7 10,900 words (target 11,666)

NaNoWriMo 2011 Approaches

Well, it’s that time of the year again. For the third year running, I’ll be attempting  National Novel Writing Month, where the goal is to write a novel (50,000 words) in one month.

In 2009, I got to about 42,500 for The Elf, which I later finished in 2010.

In 2010, I got to about 18,000 for Dull Blades, which I finished this month.

This year, my goal is (obviously) to try and finally hit the full 50k! I’ll be writing The Nymph, the sequel to The Elf, but I may do two novels back and forth if the main reason I don’t make progress is needing a break from one story or the other.

The other novel I might be working on is either Project Dark or another murder mystery. Maybe I’ll do 3! Now, that might sound like a horrible idea (it prolly is) I don’t intend to finished 3 any time soon, I just want to make sure I’m constantly writing next month.

I’ll be updating my progress here with a weekly blog update on how everything is going and revealing some details about these projects as I get further along.

The loosest of goals though, past this month:
The Nymph: Spring 2012

Next novel: Late 2012

Thanks for reading! (Please continue to do so.)

Fluker Press is proud to announce that it today finished the final round of editing for its fifth novel, Dull Blades Cut Deepest.

The murder mystery novel follows The Demon-Hunters Trilogy (2006-2009) and The Elf (2010) in being released on paperback through lulu.com, followed by availability in several digital formats including Lulu, Smashwords, and (hopefully) iBookstore.

The novel was first available to the public for a limited time in its first draft as an episodic series published here from November of last year to this May. Next month, readers can enjoy a much deeper and polished mystery.

Dull Blades Cut Deepest will be available on October 6th. It is currently 244 pages, prices and final page count will be announced upon release.

Fluker Press is also today announcing it’s sixth project, to be started this November as part of Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month.)

The Nymph is the direct sequel to The Elf and will wrap up the tale of life, love and loss once and for all, currently aiming for a Spring 2012 release.

Stay tuned to here for future updates, announcements and promotions!
